Extremely Effective Tan Removing DIY Homemade Face Mask Recipe
Home Remedy DIY Face Mask for Skin Lightening & Brightening
Okay, so here is the most requested DIY face mask for
removing sun tan. However, please be aware that this mask not only helps you
reverse the photo damage by UV, but also multi tasks as in fading scars, spots,
acne spots & also to heal acne.
But before we get started, I must let you know that this
face mask is especially suitable for oily to combination skin & as this is
a rather stronger formulation than other homemade skin lightening face masks,
this may not be suitable for a sensitive to dry skin. However, people will
normal skin can still reap the benefit but you have to make sure that you
follow up with a moisturizer after this.
And there comes another word of wisdom. As you’d expect, a
skin whitening face mask like this contains a number of citrus agents as they
are the best in removing tan, which instead can make your skin photo sensitive
(I assume you already face enough photo sensitivity to have some tan &
that’s why you’re reading this on the first place), so you need to use it only
in the evening & since regular usage of citrus agents on your face mask can
make your skin extra sensitive to sun, you must stick to your sunscreen like a
chewing gum from now on.
In fact, to make any skin lightening treatment to actually
show any difference, you need a strict sun protection regime which includes
applying a broad spectrum sunscreen even when you’re at home & covering the
sun exposed area (yes, even after sunscreen application) with protective
clothing while going out. To get details on hows & whys of sunscreen, check

So, How do I make a DIY home remedy face mask for skin
lightening & removing tan naturally?
Here’s an example of what I’m using right now. See, I’ve
used the best of my knowledge & I use lots of essential oils (you’ll know
if you’ve already read a few of my posts) but as I say, you can happily skip
them & still have a face mask that does the job.
***This mask is only suitable for combination to oily skin
& to a certain extent to normal skin. Moisturization is mandatory after
washing this off. Dry skinned people can substitute pineapple/vinegar with
yogurt & moisturize immediately after washing it off & use this only
once or twice a week. Sensitive skinned beauties should stay away from this.
Procedure:
First get fresh pineapple & slice them. Also slice a
tomato.
Grind them to a paste. Add milk powder & turmeric
paste/powder. I like fresh turmeric paste. Milk powder has amazing skin
lightening qualities so as turmeric, which is also an antiseptic so acne-prone
skin can reap multi dimensional benefit from the later.
Now, we’ll add multani mitti. This is one thing I swear by.
Multani mitti or fuller’s earth clay works the best for acne prone oily to
combination skin as it draws out all the impurities & sebum. It also
lightens the skin tone.
Also, do add Mulethi/yastimadhu or licorice powder. Licorice
root, in its original form is trust me, very hard to make a paste of. The mixer
grinder won’t work, you need to use mortar & pestle & your hands will
be cursing you (it’ll hurt so much with workload) even if you manage to even
smash it a little bit.
Licorice is known as the skin lightening herb, one of
the most potent natural skin whitening agent. It is so potent that these days
you’ll find over the counter creams with licorice extract.
However, thankfully now a days, licorice powder is available
online where you can easily get that to make a face mask.
Now, we’ll add Bengal gram flour or besan. Besan is hugely
popular in Bengal (where I belong) for use in face masks because of it’s
property of being a mild exfoliant. Also since, it is a starch based product,
it also has skin lightening properties.

At this time, we’ll also add vinegar & rose water. Vinegar is considered extremely good for acne (acetic acid kills the bacteria) & also being a mild acid, it removes tan effectively & rose water will balance vinegar’s drying properties. Rose water is a toner itself meaning an agent that shrinks pores, makes skin tighter & in India, it’s believed to be a natural skin whitening agent.
Then, we’ll add essential oils of our choice. If you’ve read
a few of my blog posts you’d know I’m a huge fan of essential oils. These
concentrated oils are gold standard in doing any job as effectively as an OTC
products & I trust them with my life.
Here, I’ve used 6 essential oils (not all are seen well in
the picture): Sandalwood oil (that plastic wrap before myrrh, only the corner
is visible), Myrrh oil, Turmeric oil, Amber oil (label is hardly visible) &
Helichrysum oil.
Sandalwood oil is not only nourishing & antiseptic but
also a super effective skin lightening agent, trusted in our ancient literature
from thousands of years.
Myrrh is a multi tasker. Besides being an excellent
antiseptic, antibacterial & anti viral, it also fights the signs of ageing.
Turmeric oil is used as a skin lightening agent & an
antiseptic acne healer.
Amber oil is an excellent skin whitening product. It also
heals age spots & fine lines with regular use.
Tamanu oil’s properties cannot be covered in a single blog
post: it ranges from skin whitening, tan removal to moisturizing; which also
heals cuts & burns. It is soothing, smoothens wrinkles & fine lines,
antiseptic & is also good for hair.
Helichrysum is the miracle oil. It is derived from the
flowers of plant called helichrysum italicum/angustifolium, & also called
the ‘Immortelle’ oil. This is gold standard in anti-ageing. Simply nothing
beats its wrinkle lifting & anti ageing properties which has only recently
been commercialized.
Finally, mix all the ingredients into a paste, add water as
you need it. It should look like this:
Apply this in the evening & keep it for ½ an hour or
until dry & wash it off gently. Always follow with a moisturizer.
This face mask alone handles all your need from fighting
pollution to dark spots, skin lightening, toning, anti ageing & also mildly
exfoliates the skin to reveal a fresh complexion.
You’ll see the difference right from the first application.

But do not forget the sunscreen or you’ll come cursing me
that your now even more photo sensitive skin has acquired tan again.
Let me know how it went in the comments box below.
Cheers!!!
